About Cooper

Proud of Where We’ve Been. Confident in Where We’re Going.

Cooper Tire is an American brand headquartered in Findlay, Ohio. Our tires are engineered in America for North American roads, using innovative and cutting edge technology. Cooper Tire manufactures some of the most state-of-the-art tires on the market today and provides a true value investment. It stands now as one of only two U.S.-owned tire manufacturers.

Cooper’s U.S. history dates back to 1914, when brothers-in-law John F. Schaefer and Claude E. Hart purchased M and M Manufacturing Company in Akron, Ohio, producing tire patches, tire cement and tire repair kits.

In 1915, Schaefer and Hart purchased The Giant Tire & Rubber Company of Akron, a tire rebuilding business, and two years later moved the business to Findlay, Ohio.

The firm changed its name to Cooper Tire & Rubber Company in 1946 and by July 11, 1960, the company became a publicly held corporation and was listed on the New York Stock Exchange.

In 2014, Cooper celebrated its 100th year in the tire business. This important milestone speaks to the contributions of thousands of people who came before us and those who are a part of Cooper today. Cooper is stronger than ever, and we are excited to write the next chapter in our company’s rich history as we begin our second century.
